Apple will replace the Apple Watch Series 6's blank screen for free.

Many issues with Apple products may be resolved with software upgrades, but some are more significant. That seems to be the situation with Apple Watch Series 6 models that have a "blank screen problem." Apple confirmed last week that any concerned devices built between April 2021 and September 2021 would be covered by a servicing programme.

Service programme for Apple Watches with blank screens

The displays on a small number of 40mm Apple Watch Series 6 devices have gone blank permanently, according to Apple. The firm does not explain why this occurs or what it intends to do to address the issue. The good news is that if your Apple Watch Series 6 is qualified for the new servicing programme, Apple will repair it for free.

The serial number is required to evaluate whether or not your device is qualified. Of course, you can't check your watch if the screen is blank. Instead, launch the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, go to the My Watch page, and then to General > About to get your watch's serial number. If you have an Apple Watch GPS + Cellular model, you should see either a Serial Number or an IMEI on this page.

Your Apple Watch's serial number may also be found on the casing. Remove the band from your Apple Watch Series 6 and check inside the band slot for it.

How can I get my Apple Watch ready for service?

You have a few alternatives if your Apple Watch Series 6 is qualified for the programme. You may arrange an appointment at any Apple Store if you live near one. Alternatively, you may go to an Apple Authorized Service Provider. If visiting an Apple Store isn't an option, you may contact Apple Support and arrange for mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center. To get your watch ready for servicing, just follow the instructions on this page.

There are a few important caveats. First and foremost, this programme does not extend your Apple Watch's usual warranty coverage. Furthermore, the warranty only lasts for two years after the Apple Watch Series 6 is purchased at a retail store. The Apple Watch Series 6 will be released on September 18th, 2020, which is rapidly approaching for early adopters. However, the problem is only supposed to impact vehicles built between April and September of 2021.

In related news, Apple this week opened a Self-Service Repair Store. Customers may purchase or rent components and equipment to repair iPhones at home at the shop. The shop is only accessible in the United States for the time being, but Apple wants to extend into Europe later this year. In the following months, the business will also begin carrying components for Mac machines.
